Answering Question No.1

Q1. Is TNR the most effective way to control stray cat populations?

To answer this question, I will explain briefly what TNR is.

TNR stands for

T - Trap (to catch the cats)

・Be careful so the cats won't get hurt.

・Attach a sign with contact information and purpose.

・Once a cat enters the trap, quickly wrap the entire trap in cloth to calm down the cat.

N - neuter (to give the cats a sterilization surgery)

・A V-cut is made at the tip of the cat's ear to mark that it has had it's surgery.

・The cat does not feel any pain because it is under general anesthesia.

・There is also very little bleeding.

R - Return (to send them back to the wild)

・Cat volunteers monitor the cats' post-operative progress.

Now that we know what TNR(Trap-Neuter-Return) means, is TNR the best way to control cats population? The easy answer is yes, it is. Cats can give birth up to three times a year, producing 5 to 7 kittens at a time. Plus, at 6 months old, the kittens become capable of reproduction and will give birth to grandchildren. If TNR  is carried out slowly, it will be impossible to keep up with the cats' rapid reproduction rate. Also, even if TNR is preformed on 90% of the cats, the remaining 10% will quickly increase in number. It's important not to be satisfied with just a rough estimate, but to perform TNR on 100% of the cats in the area. In addition, we have to continue this act in order to reduce the number of cats that will get killed.
