1. What I Researched
The relationship between outdoor cats and
local wildlife is a big debate between cat advocates and wildlife
conservationists.
Research shows that domestic cats are
natural hunters. Even if cats are neutered and regularly fed by humans, their
hunting instinct does not go away. According to studies by organizations
like the American Bird Conservancy, free-roaming cats kill millions of
birds, small mammals, and reptiles every year.
Because TNR returns cats to the outdoors
rather than removing them, wildlife scientists argue that TNR keeps a high
number of active predators in the ecosystem.

- Hunting continues: Surgery stops
reproduction, but it does not stop hunting. Neutered cats still catch
birds, lizards, and small mammals.
- High density of predators: Feeding
stations can attract many cats to one area. This puts continuous pressure

species toward extinction.

3. My Opinion
TNR helps control the cat population, but it
does not instantly protect local birds. Because neutered cats keep hunting,
TNR should not be used in sensitive natural areas or bird sanctuaries. In
places with rare wildlife, removing cats completely (through adoption or
shelters) is necessary to protect biodiversity.
